Beckingen (ots) - On Wednesday, July 29.07.2020, XNUMX, two facts were reported to the Merzig police inspection, in which the victims were faked on the phone to find a financial emergency in order to gain fraudulent money. In both cases, the victims became suspicious and informed the police.
The first act occurred around 12:30 p.m., in Düppenweiler. A 58-year-old woman was contacted by an unknown caller who posed as "Alfons" to her and who needed financial help due to buying a house. The 58-year-old immediately became suspicious and asked the caller to come to her personally. Then she ended the call.
The second act, which occurred around 12:35 p.m., caused an unknown man to call an 80-year-old senior in Beckingen. The caller pretended to be an acquaintance to the older lady and said that he had suffered a traffic accident and needed financial help. Since the older woman knew that her acquaintance did not currently drive a car due to his health, the caller was also informed in this case that he should please contact her personally. The victim then ended the call.
In order not to become a victim of these fraudsters yourself, please note the following behavioral tips from the Merzig police inspection:
- Make sure who the caller is!
Ask specifically for his first and last name! Say
that you speak to relatives first and end that
- Maintain a healthy level towards strangers
Do not distrust or provide any information about your family
Situation or your financial circumstances!
- Notify the police!
