Rockenhausen (Donnersbergkreis) (ots) - In the last two days there have been several telephone contacts in Rockenhausen with alleged police officers of the Rockenhausen police, mostly with older citizens.
On Monday morning, an 86-year-old man was questioned by phone by alleged police officers about a break-in in the neighborhood and his financial situation. After he stated that he had no money at home, he was asked to get his deposits from the bank in order to be able to transfer them to a foreign account. The injured party went to the bank, but did not withdraw any money, but informed the real police.
On Tuesday there were at least three further contacts by false police officers. The perpetrators claimed to the injured party that there had been a robbery in Rockenhausen and that four perpetrators had already been caught. The victims were asked if they had noticed anything suspicious in this context. Claims were not made.
If you receive such strange calls, remain suspicious. Do not give any information on valuables, your financial situation or bank details on the phone. And if someone stands at your door and wants to keep your cash or jewelry "for protection": Never give your valuables to a stranger! Have the name given to you, show your ID card and ask the police whether this employee actually exists.
