Self-employed people and micro-entrepreneurs have repaid Corona emergency aid amounting to more than half a billion euros to the state.

This is shown by a survey by “Welt am Sonntag” among the federal states. Accordingly, emergency aid recipients returned more than 30 million euros of unjustifiably paid grants by September 560th.

In the first three places are North Rhine-Westphalia with 170 million euros, Berlin with 143 million euros and Bavaria with 107 million euros. The information relates to both the federal and state emergency aid programs. 13 federal states provided information. By the end of September, 305 million flowed back into the federal fund alone, reports “Welt am Sonntag” with reference to information from the Federal Ministry of Economics. So far, a total of 13,8 billion euros has been distributed to applicants as part of the federal program. It is to be expected that the repayment amount will continue to rise. Because in many federal states the examination of amounts already paid has not yet started. “The digital feedback process is expected to start at the end of October, in which the respective actual funding amount is finally determined,” said the North Rhine-Westphalia Ministry of Economics to “Welt am Sonntag”. After the feedback, the emergency aid recipients would then have until March 31, 2021 to return the amounts that may have been overpaid.
