According to a current press release from the Regionalliga Südwest GbR, game operations in the Regionalliga Südwest will be suspended until further notice due to the spread of the Corona virus. When and how it goes on is still open.
According to the announcement, restrictive measures are currently in place in the five federal states that are home to clubs in the Südwest-Staffel, which prohibit game and training activities. It must currently be assumed that the season in the Regionalliga Südwest cannot continue immediately after the end of the Easter holidays. Therefore, against the background of the respective state dispositions for all amateur game classes including the five regional league seasons, it was decided to suspend game operations until further notice.
The indefinite suspension is necessary because the legal situation - specifically the statutory ordinances and orders of the states of Baden-Württemberg, Hesse, Rhineland-Palatinate, Saarland and Bavaria - does not allow any other option and it is currently uncertain when the game will continue will be.
The top priority continues to be that organized football must also make its contribution and therefore refrain from doing anything that favors an increase in the number of infections. The associations are currently developing, evaluating and examining all scenarios that deal with the continuation of the 2019/2020 season and the case that the season cannot be continued. In its communication, the Regionalliga Südwest GbR points out, however, that the peak of the Corona crisis has not yet been reached and that it is not yet possible to provide definitive answers to these practical questions in football.
