The partner clubs SV Göttelborn and SV Elversberg have jointly decided to send the second FrauenElv into the race at the Saarland Cup final on Sunday, September 6th. "We want to send a strong signal for the partnership between the two clubs," says Horst Zimmer, chairman of SV Göttelborn.
The team of trainer Markus Plein made a great sacrifice at the start of the joint project in 2018. She was the first team of SV Göttelborn to be promoted to the association league, then became the second team through the rebuilding of the first FrauenElv, including a restart in the district league, which is two classes lower.
The opponent in the stadium at the Kieselhumes in Saarbrücken (kick-off at 14 p.m.) is the regional league team FC Riegelsberg, which like Göttelborn is already qualified for the first main round of the DFB Cup. Despite the difficulty of the task, coach Plein looks forward to the game with great anticipation: “It will be an absolute highlight for all players. We'll do everything we can to annoy the favorite. Above all, we want to enjoy the game and everything around it.
Sarah Franz, captain of the first FrauenElv, underlines the importance of this decision on behalf of her team: “Of course we would have loved to play this final. But we're making this sacrifice, just like the girls did two years ago, to start the project. We'll be there on Sunday, keep our fingers crossed and loudly support the team - in the hope that they might even manage a big surprise.
Spectators are admitted to the final. Tickets can only be bought online at www.tickets.saar-fv.de
Advance sales are due to start today around 12 noon. Come and support the troops!
