In the wage conflict in the public service, the German Association of Cities defended the employers' offer for a wage increase of 3,5 percent.

They appeal to the unions to come to a collective agreement on the basis of the offer, said the association's deputy chief executive Verena Göppert, the newspapers of the Funke media group (Saturday editions). The municipalities will have the current crisis under control for a long time to come.

"Now is the time for a collective wage agreement with a sense of proportion," said Göppert. The offer is "an important signal to public service workers that their commitment is valued". The municipalities offer their employees "crisis-proof, secure jobs with good framework conditions, such as a good work-life balance". Outside of the public service, however, many people would have lost their economic livelihood due to Corona.
