Second in the Formula 1 race in Portimão was Max Verstappen (Red Bull). This suggests a duel between the two of them in the World Cup.

At the start nothing had changed at the top. After Kimi Räikkönen (Alfa Romeo) retired, the safety car had to go out on the second lap. At the restart on lap seven, Verstappen was able to overtake Hamilton and move up to second place, while Valtteri Bottas (Mercedes), who had started from pole, stayed in front. Four laps later, however, Hamilton passed again after a mistake by Verstappen. As the race progressed, the Briton took the lead from his team-mate, who apparently had problems with his car. Meanwhile, Verstappen was stuck behind Bottas for a long time - only after both were in the pits was the Red Bull driver able to overtake on lap 37. In the end, it stayed with this constellation. Bottas took third place on the podium in Portimão. Sergio Pérez (Red Bull), Lando Norris (McLaren), Charles Leclerc (Ferrari), Esteban Ocon (Alpine) and Fernando Alonso (Alpine) followed on the other ranks. Daniel Ricciardo (McLaren) scored two points for the World Championship in ninth place, Pierre Gasly (Alpha Tauri) one point in tenth place. The point for the fastest race lap went to Bottas. Mick Schumacher (Haas) finished in 17th place, Sebastian Vettel (Aston Martin) did not make it into the points again in 13th place. The next race of the season will take place in Spain next week.
