As the Saarland Football Association announced on Friday, the 2020/2021 season in the Saarland divisions will be canceled and canceled due to the corona pandemic. This applies to the championship competitions, which affects our youth in particular, but not to the men's, women's and U19 cup competitions. In the Saarland amateur leagues, there will be neither promoted nor relegated, the association announced.

The decision of the association is based on the mood of the Saarland clubs, which the SFV had obtained in several video conferences. Accordingly, a large majority had spoken out in favor of ending the season.

It is still unclear how it will go on for our U21s in the Oberliga Rheinland-Pfalz / Saar, for our youth regional leagues U15, U17 and U19 as well as for our women's team in the Regionalliga Südwest, because in these supraregional cases the Football Regional Association Southwest responsible is. A decision should also be made here as soon as possible. Should the season be canceled here too, however, unlike the Saarland state association, due to its rules of play, the association could still name promoted players or relegation participants who (as in parts of the previous season) would be calculated according to the quotient rule. Accordingly, both our U19 and U17 as well as the women's Elv would still have a chance of participating in relegation. How the decision will ultimately turn out remains to be seen.

The cup round should meanwhile continue to be played at least for the U19s, women and men, the SFV also announced. In all cases, it is a question of qualifying for the DFB Cup in the respective class, and for some years now, the state cup finals in the men's area as part of the “Amateurs Final Day” (May 29) have been played in parallel across Germany and broadcast on TV, which should also be the case this season. How the further competition will be organized, especially for the men, where 64 clubs are still in the race, is still open - the SFV will discuss this with the clubs concerned next week.
