Saarbrücken (ots) - Saarbrücken. The Saarland police, with the support of the Federal Police, prevented a demonstration of 15.11.2020 supporters of a group of "lateral thinkers" from Sankt Wendel, who had gathered in front of the Saarbrücken power station despite a legal ban.
The group had registered a meeting in Saarbrücken for today's holiday, at which several hundred participants were expected. The prohibition of the meeting issued by the assembly authority of the city of Saarbrücken because of today's public holiday (memorial day) was confirmed by the Saarland administrative court and the higher administrative court.
Nevertheless, around 500 people came to the square in front of the Saarbrücken power station at around 15.00 p.m. More than 120 forces from the Saarland police and the federal police, in close coordination with the assembly authority of the city of Saarbrücken, prevented typical gathering expressions of opinion (such as speaking or showing banners) or the gathering from moving.
Only after repeated requests by the police were the specified minimum distances largely adhered to and mouth and nose covering worn. The consistent and determined behavior of the police forces finally led to the fact that the people who had arrived, most of whom came from Saarland, dispersed again and finally left the location around 17 p.m.
