The discount-free pension at 63 is still popular: Last year, the number of those who received the discount-free old-age pension for the first time after at least 45 years of insurance increased by around 10.000 compared to the previous year to a total of 253.492 insured persons.

This is based on figures from the German pension insurance, which the "Rheinische Post" reports on. According to this, 137.487 men and 116.005 women retired early last year without having to accept any deductions from their old-age pension.

In the previous year there were 243.719 insured persons (132.589 men and 111.130 women). Men who retired early in 45 after 2019 years of insurance received monthly pensions of 1.557 euros (2018: 1.500 euros) in the west, as announced by the pension insurance. For women, the pension amount was € 1.142 last year (2018: € 1.086). In the east, it was 1.262 euros for men (2018: 1.209 euros) and 1.204 euros for women (2018: 1.122 euros). The pension at 63 was introduced on July 1, 2014 by the then grand coalition. When it was introduced, the federal government had expected around 200.000 applicants per year. However, this number has been exceeded by several tens of thousands in every full year since its introduction, so that the cost of the pension, at 63, is higher than originally expected.
