Saarbrücken (ots) - From September 21 to 24, the traffic route control unit of the main customs office in Saarbrücken checked the flowing traffic on Autobahn 8 at the “Kutzhof” rest area. And customs relied on technology: the fully mobile X-ray system supported the controls in Saarland on all four days.
"Within a few minutes, we can use the X-ray images to see whether there are contraband goods on the truck," says Hans Barth, head of the main customs office in Saarbrücken. "This enables us to check trucks quickly and effectively."
The controls were also supported by the police and the THW. Thanks to the technical support of the THW, (partial) discharges can be carried out directly at the control point.
A total of 90 trucks were screened.
The following violations were found:

"In addition to the targeted controls by the X-ray technology, good cross-agency cooperation is very important to us," emphasizes Hans Barth. "Joint controls always support a holistic control approach that also reflects the unity to the outside world."
The fully mobile X-ray system is a modern tool that the customs administration uses to combat smuggling. The main focus is on drug, cigarette and weapons smuggling. The system scans the vehicles using X-ray technology. Specially trained image evaluators from customs can immediately identify hiding places and contraband on the X-ray images. You only have to unload if there are actual indications of violations. The fully mobile X-ray system that was used in Saarland is stationed in Cologne. The controls in western Germany are coordinated from the Cologne location.
