This emerges from a letter that Tauber sent to the CDU members in his constituency over the weekend. In it he announced that he would “end my political career next year and not run for the German Bundestag again next year”.
He justifies his step with "personal and family reasons". "It's no secret that family means a lot to me and that I see the center of my life in Gelnhausen," the letter continues. Not only his health situation, "also the idea of looking for and accepting new professional challenges" played a role. The 46-year-old Tauber has been in the Bundestag since 2013. From December 2013 to February 2018 he was CDU General Secretary. At the beginning of 2018 he had to undergo an operation because of a bowel disease. This resulted in life-threatening complications. After his recovery, Tauber became Parliamentary State Secretary in the Ministry of Defense. Even after his departure, Tauber does not want to do without politics entirely. In his letter he writes that he wants to stay connected to the CDU and "contribute accordingly" to the upcoming local elections in Hesse.
