The left in the Bundestag calls on the grand coalition to prevent a pandemic-related zero pension in the coming year.

The corona crisis should not lead to the situation for pensioners worsening, said parliamentary group leader Dietmar Bartsch to the newspapers of the Funke media group (Thursday editions). "A zero round in the coming year or even 2022 would be detrimental to social and economic policy."

Every second statutory pension is already below EUR 1.000 net. Due to the current recession, the German pension insurance assumes that there will be no increase in salaries in western Germany in the coming year. In the east there is likely to be a small plus of 0,7 percent. The pension increase is based on the economic development of the previous year.

At the beginning of July pensions in the east had risen by 4,2 percent and in the west by 3,45 percent. Bartsch also spoke out in favor of orienting oneself more closely to the Austrian pension system. There also self-employed and civil servants paid in, the pension payments and the basic pension are overall higher than in Germany.
