Lewis Hamilton wins the Hungarian Grand Prix at the Hungaroring. Vettel is knocked off second. The final phase caused tension again when Bottas collided with Vettel and then with Ricciardo.
Lewis Hamilton controlled the race from the first lap and started the summer break with an extended lead. Due to a misguided pit stop, Ferrari's tactic of letting Vettel drive the harder tires longer did not work, in the end Vettel was missing just over a second to return to the track after his pit stop in front of Finn Valtteri Bottas.
Vettel was stuck many laps behind the second Mercedes pilot and increasingly ruined his faster tires.
Third place goes to Kimi Raikkönen in a Ferrari, who had to do the entire race without a water bottle. Fourth was the sunny boy from Australia, Danny Ricciardo, after a great race to catch up.
Max Verstappen retired after a few laps with a technical defect on the MGU-K.
Pierre Gasly in the Toro Rosso-Honda achieved a good 6th place, Kevin Magnussen finished 7th, Fernando Alonso, Carlos Sainz Jr. and Romain Grosjean complete the top 10.
Startling moment shortly before the end
Vettel was stuck behind Valtteri Bottas for a long time before attacking the tire-fighting Finn on lap 66. Bottas was unwilling to give in and collided with Vettel, with Bottas damaging the front wing.
The beneficiary of this situation was Kimi Raikkönen, who pushed past the second Mercedes pilot together with Vettel.
Danny Ricciardo, starting from far back, smelled the roast and also attacked Bottas, who apparently did not act cool enough in this phase. Ricciardo huddled next to Bottas, who braked himself and crashed violently into the Australian's Red Bull and thus remained in the lead.
But a round later Ricciardo, who luckily only sustained damage to the side baffles, attacked again. This time Bottas had no chance and fell back to fifth place.
