In view of the sharp rise in the number of corona infections, SPD health expert Karl Lauterbach has warned of a shortage of nursing staff in Germany's intensive care units.

“Instead of always talking about the number of free intensive care beds, we should better take a look at the capacities of the nursing staff,” Lauterbach told the “editorial network Germany” (Saturday editions). "These are completely understaffed".

On the other hand, there are enough beds. "The nursing staff is the bottleneck where things could get tight if the number of infections continues to rise," says Lauterbach.
