Federal Justice Minister Christine Lambrecht (SPD) has called for the right-wing extremism scandal to be fully investigated by the North Rhine-Westphalian police.

Police officers stand for the protection of democracy, Lambrecht told the newspapers of the Funke media group (Thursday editions). "There shouldn't be the slightest doubt about that, also and especially in the police's own interest."

Therefore, the incidents in North Rhine-Westphalia must be investigated and clarified with all vigor. "If the allegations are substantiated, the cases must be punished consistently." This is important for trust in the rule of law and the values of the Basic Law, for which the police "stand up every day," said the SPD politician.
