Kubicki rejects Brinkhaus model for electoral reform

Bundestag Vice President Wolfgang Kubicki (FDP) has rejected the proposal by Union fraction leader Ralph Brinkhaus (CDU) for an electoral reform with a maximum of 750 members.

"The Brinkhaus model is nothing more than a diversion," said Kubicki of the "Rheinische Post" (Monday edition). It should conceal that the CDU / CSU parliamentary group opposes a “reasonable electoral law reform”, which the FDP, the Left and the Greens have already reached the Bundestag as a draft law and could still be passed in the last week of the session before the summer break.

Kubicki added: "Brinkhaus himself knows that his proposal was rejected by the experts consulted as not being in conformity with the constitution."
