Before a meeting of EU education ministers in Osnabrück on Wednesday, Federal Education Minister Anja Karliczek (CDU) calls on the federal states to invest more in the qualification of teachers with a view to digital teaching.

"The countries that are responsible for this task will certainly have to make further efforts here," she told the "Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung" (Wednesday edition). As part of the teacher training quality offensive, the federal government is already funding projects that focus on the digitization of teacher training.

Only if teachers are qualified can the new digital offers be used meaningfully in the interests of children. In connection with the planned procurement of work laptops for teachers, however, fundamental questions about financing still have to be clarified, said Karliczek. She pointed out that funds from the EU development fund should be made available for this.
