Munich (ots) - Little traffic and empty highways: Drivers can only dream of this over the next 13 weekends. Nobody can get away without traffic jams. In Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, the starting signal for the summer vacation is given this weekend. Car travelers from Scandinavia, where the schools are now closed, and travelers who are not bound by vacation dates are also traveling towards the sea or south.
The ADAC does not expect endless metal avalanches at the start of the season on the holiday highways. However, the club assumes that as a result of the Corona crisis, significantly more Germans will go on holiday in their own country or in neighboring countries and fewer trips abroad by plane this season. As a result, German roads could be even more polluted than in previous years. However, in view of the limited number of overnight accommodations in the tourist regions, holiday trips are likely to do without a trip altogether.

Since the Federal Foreign Office's worldwide travel warning has been lifted, foreign trips abroad have become possible again. At many borders, controls and waiting times must be expected when entering and leaving the country. Rejections are also possible because of Corona. The chances of getting through neighboring countries without traffic jams are slim. Several European holiday countries are now starting their holidays. The problem routes include the Tauern, Fernpass, Brenner, Karawanken and Gotthard routes as well as the trunk roads to the Italian, Croatian and French coasts.
