In the coming spring it will bloom and green in Schiffweiler. That is why 38.000 flower bulbs are to be planted in the community with the help of volunteers.
Last Saturday, with the help of the Beekeeping Association Stennweiler, the Nabu local group Stennweiler and many volunteers, 5.000 flower bulbs were set at the Lindenhalle. "We were lucky with the weather and planting went quickly since the soil had previously been loosened up," says Ina Klaumann from the municipality's environmental agency.
The next date for sowing is on Friday, September 28th from 10 a.m. in Landsweiler-Reden behind the Klinkenthalhalle. The planting project in Heiligenwald at the Itzenplitzer Weiher car park is planned for October. In addition to daffodils and crocuses, insect-friendly shrubs should also be planted at all locations. New information boards also provide an overview of the area's flora and fauna.
Three quarters of the project is funded by the Ministry of the Environment. Last year, the Ministry of the Environment launched a program to promote flowering areas within the city under the name “Saarland is in bloom”. The project not only aims to beautify the townscape, but also to create a habitat for bees and other insects.
"For Friday we are still looking for volunteers who are interested in gardening and would like to beautify their place with a shovel and spade," says Klaumann. If you want to participate, you can come to the Klinkenthalhalle from 10 a.m. or register with Ina Klaumann on Tel. 06821-67823.
