Germany will take in 1.553 refugees from the Greek islands.

The Union and the SPD had agreed on this, said SPD leader Saskia Esken and Vice Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) on Tuesday afternoon. “In a further step, Germany will now take in more than 1.500 refugees, mostly families with children who have been in Greece so far. And we are striving for a European relief operation, within the framework of which our country will take in more people in need of protection, ”said Scholz.

Previously, Interior Minister Horst Seehofer (CSU) had insisted on a European solution to the problem surrounding the situation in the Greek refugee camp Moria on Lesbos.
