On the first match day of the group stage in the UEFA Champions League, FC Bayern Munich won 4-0 at home against Atletico Madrid and Borussia Mönchengladbach drew 2-2 away against Inter Milan.

Atletico put the reigning Champions League winner under pressure from the start and tried to stop the Munich team from building up. The Spaniards also had the first chance of the match in the third minute, when Suarez narrowly missed Lodi's cross into the six-yard box.

Bayern had their first big chance in the 15th minute when Müller extended a corner to Süle and it only hit the right post from six meters. In the 29th minute, the Flick-Elf then took the lead when Kimmich put Coman on the left in the penalty area after conquering the ball and he sank the ball in the right corner. In the 41st minute, the German record champions countered exemplary, Coman put down on Goretzka at the edge of the box and the German international nailed the leather into the left corner. It went into the cabins with a well-deserved tour for the hosts.

The Italians had everything under control from the start and put Marco Rose's team under great pressure. In the 21st minute, Darmian put down on Eriksen, who locked from the back area and was just blocked by Kramer. There was almost nothing offensively from the foals. In the 41st minute, Lukaku just missed the far corner from the right in the penalty area.

The break went goalless. Shortly after the break, Inter scored the well-deserved opening goal when Lukaku was able to dust off in the 49th minute after a failed attempt by Darmian. Gladbach tried to come back and was rewarded: After a foul on Vidal on Thuram, Bensebaini converted the penalty kick into the right corner in the 63rd minute. The Milanese responded with vigorous attacks.

In the 74th minute, a cross from Perisic was deflected onto the left post, but Gladbach then cleared it. In the same minute, the Croat placed a Kolarov corner on the left post over the box, but looked surprised. Substitute Lautaro Martinez hit the right post after a cross from Darmian in the 82nd minute. In the 84th minute, however, the goal from Hofmann followed, who was perfectly sent by Neuhaus with a long ball into the Italian penalty area and Handanovic tunnelled to guide the guests.

Romelu Lukaku was able to answer again and equalized in the 90th minute after a corner extension from Bastoni. In stoppage time, Kolarov again set a direct free kick to the left outer post. In the end, however, the division of points between Inter Milan and Borussia Mönchengladbach in Champions League group B remained.
