The Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) has warned of an "increased threat risk" from cyber attacks.

"In the course of the pandemic, we have observed an increase in phishing attacks in particular on companies and citizens," said BSI President Arne Schönbohm to the newspapers of the Funke media group. Cyber criminals like to use special, high-profile occasions or events such as Corona as a hook for new types of attack.

"The perpetrators ask their victims, for example, to disclose personal or company-related data on fake websites in the name of banks or alleged public bodies, for example in connection with applying for emergency aid, in order to subsequently misuse this information for criminal activities," said Schönbohm . DDoS attacks on companies have also been observed. The IT security provider Link11 had previously reported a drastic increase in such attacks in its half-year report.
