Trier (ots) - Around 16.20:XNUMX p.m. this afternoon, employees of the Borromean women's clinic in Trier alerted the fire department because a mattress was burning in a partially closed department of the hospital.
Hospital employees were able to quickly extinguish the fire as first aiders and evacuate the 15 patients from the infirmary.
According to the current state of knowledge, two of them were injured by light smoke intoxication and have to be treated.
After the fire brigade finally extinguished the fire and ventilated the ward, most of the patients were able to return to their rooms.
The criminal police took over the investigation, since after the first findings on site it must be assumed at the moment that the mattress was deliberately set on fire. There were no patients in the room when the fire started.
The damage to property is likely to be in the lower four-digit range due to the rapid intervention of the hospital staff.
So far, there has been no suspicion of a crime against certain people. The investigations into the cause of the fire and the course of events are currently ongoing.
