It is overdue "that the European Council wants to include a code of conduct on the data-compliant use of health data in its conclusions," said Bitkom President Achim Berg on Tuesday. They also welcome that "Germany wants to use its influence to make the corona tracing apps interoperable across Europe".
There shouldn't be a “European patchwork” here. Germany is also aiming for Council conclusions in the area of digital education and the ecodesign directive. "However, the great potential of digitization for the sustainability goals is hardly taken into account and should be emphasized much more," said Berg. The Bitkom president also sees a need to catch up on the topic of artificial intelligence. This “future topic” does not play a central role in German considerations for Europe. The area of cybersecurity is also neglected. “The topics of digital identity and startup politics are completely left out.” According to Berg, the federal government should “set further priorities”.
