In the police scandal surrounding right-wing extremist officers in North Rhine-Westphalia, the head of the Federation of German Criminal Police Officers (BDK), Sebastian Fiedler, calls for better control of the police apparatus by independent experts.

This is reported by the "Westdeutsche Allgemeine Zeitung" (Friday edition). Fiedler welcomed the appointment of the constitutional protector Uwe Reichel-Offermann as special representative for right-wing extremist tendencies in the NRW police by State Interior Minister Herbert Reul (CDU).

But Fiedler also said: “It would have been even better to bring an outside representative to the Ministry of the Interior, for example a former judge or public prosecutor.” What happened to the police in Essen and Mülheim “shakes the foundations of trust into the police ”, said the BDK boss.
