Büchenbeuren (ots) - Today, the opening event of the Thank You Police Day 2019 took place at the University of Police in Rhineland-Palatinate. The association "No violence against police officers eV" has set itself the task of publicly promoting an appreciative handling of police work and to raise awareness about violence against police officers. In the presence and under the patronage of Minister of the Interior Roger Lewentz, Gerke Minrath, the chairwoman of the association “No violence against police officers”, welcomed people and organizations who would like to thank the police. Thanks were given not only for the regular service that was performed, but also for the special commitment of individual police officers outside of duty. In addition to representatives from politics and society, the German Bone Marrow Donor File (DKMS) and the Stefan Morsch Foundation of the Police University expressed their thanks to representatives of the press. Both organizations have been contributing to cancer control through typing campaigns for years and use the university annually as a location for the acquisition of new potential stem cell donors. Police commissioner Maik Molitor, who completed his bachelor's degree at the university until May 2019, became a stem cell donor in 2018 after such a typing campaign and thus a lifesaver. It represents all police officers who are thanked today and tomorrow. Friedel Durben, the director of the Rhineland-Palatinate Police College, on the other hand, paid tribute to Ms. Minrath's work in the association: "A commitment that we police officers very well appreciate, and for which we thank." After the kick-off event, Ms. Minrath will visit other police stations to express appreciation and recognition to the police officers working there.
