Büchenbeuren (ots) - 196 young men and 103 young women began their three-year bachelor's degree in police service on the Hahn campus. In the last seven weeks, due to the pandemic, the Police University was obliged to offer the 1650 police students in six Bachelor’s degree courses exclusively digital. When the new course is welcomed, face-to-face studies at the Police College are gradually being resumed. "It is important to us to give our new colleagues the opportunity to get to know each other and the university personally," confirms Friedel Durben, director of the Police College. The course takes place in small groups in compliance with the relevant safety regulations. In particular, it is important to maintain the necessary safety distance, to wear the mouth and nose cover and to observe the hygiene rules. Interior Minister Roger Lewentz is happy about the new additions to the police. The high number of recruits also testifies to the attractiveness of the police profession. “The beginning of the course is of course faced with the special challenges of the corona pandemic; but the police college has prepared well. Direct contact with the university is particularly important for those just starting out in the police force. There is a lot of content that cannot be conveyed exclusively digitally. "

The prospective police officers can expect a modern and scientifically oriented bachelor's degree. In addition to theoretical study sections, it contains a mix of specialist knowledge and practical practical components.

240 of the new students come from Rhineland-Palatinate, the rest come from Hesse, North Rhine-Westphalia, Saarland, Baden-Württemberg, Bavaria and a student from Dresden in Saxony, 600 km away.

In addition to the 299 new students at the other locations of the Police College in Wittlich-Wengerohr and Enkenbach-Alsenborn, a total of 120 students from older years also started to study the police in modified form in small groups. The rest of the police commissioner candidates are currently in digital studies or in internships in individual police duty. The university thus guarantees its range of courses for all courses and for the applicant selection process for upcoming appointments
